New Delhi – Amidst the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raids targeting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashok Kumar Mittal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is using central agencies to prepare for the upcoming Punjab elections. The raids, which took place on Wednesday, targeted both business and residential properties linked to Mittal across Punjab and Haryana.

The ED’s actions are reportedly connected to an ongoing investigation regarding potential violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). According to ED officials, approximately 10 locations in Jalandhar and Gurugram were searched, including premises associated with Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, as well as two linked educational institutions—Tetr College of Business and Masters Union College of Business located in Gurugram. Information reaching TahirRihat.com suggests that the raids are part of heightened scrutiny related to financial compliances.

Kejriwal conveyed his sentiments via a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that Prime Minister Modi has commenced preparations for the Punjab elections. He further added that the residents of Punjab would not accept such tactics and would respond appropriately to the BJP’s actions. Mittal was recently appointed as the deputy leader of the AAP in the Rajya Sabha, succeeding MP Raghav Chadha. The 61-year-old leader also serves as the Chancellor of Lovely Professional University.

In response to the ED raids, AAP leaders have leveled accusations against the BJP, alleging misuse of central agencies with the intention of influencing the upcoming elections. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also voiced strong condemnation of the raids, echoing Kejriwal’s sentiment that the BJP has begun its campaign for the Assembly elections in the state, where the AAP currently holds power.

AAP leader Anurag Dhanda suggested that the ED’s actions indicate the BJP’s early engagement in election preparations within Punjab. Dhanda questioned whether the BJP is capable of contesting elections without relying on central agencies like the ED and the CBI. Senior AAP figure Manish Sisodia claimed that the deployment of central agencies typically precedes elections in various states, followed by political visits from BJP leaders.

Sisodia further criticized the central government’s approach, characterizing it as authoritarian. However, officials have clarified that the searches are related to an ongoing FEMA investigation, targeting several premises linked to Mittal’s various business ventures.

The political climate in Punjab has become increasingly heated as various parties gear up for the upcoming elections. The AAP’s rise to power in the state has disrupted traditional political equations, and the party is keen to retain its hold. The BJP, on the other hand, is looking to expand its influence in the region. The unfolding events, including the ED raids and subsequent political reactions, are expected to further intensify the political discourse as the state moves closer to the election period. The allegations of misusing central agencies for political purposes have added another layer of complexity to the already intricate political landscape of Punjab.

With the elections drawing closer, all eyes are on how these developments will play out and influence the choices of voters. The accusations made by AAP leaders highlight the deep-seated mistrust and rivalry between political parties in the country, especially in the context of elections where stakes are high and competition is fierce.

The investigation into potential FEMA violations is said to be extensive, focusing on a range of transactions and financial dealings connected to Mittal’s business interests. The ED’s actions are based on specific intelligence indicating potential irregularities, and the agency is committed to thoroughly investigating the matter to determine if any laws were indeed broken. The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for Mittal and the institutions associated with him.

For the BJP’s part, there has been no official statement in response to the accusations surrounding the ED raids. It remains to be seen whether the party will address the allegations, and if so, what their response will entail. Until then, the controversy surrounding the ED raids on AAP MP Mittal is set to continue dominating the news cycle in Punjab and beyond, with potential ramifications for the political landscape and the dynamics between the various parties involved.
