The Tourism Federation of Jammu (TFoJ) recently convened a meeting to address the current state of tourism in the Jammu region and its impact on the local economy. Discussions centered on strengthening connectivity and improving tourism infrastructure to bolster the industry in the area.
During the meeting, members of TFoJ voiced their appreciation for the ongoing renovations and modernization efforts at Jammu Airport, noting that these upgrades are a positive step toward improving the travel experience for visitors and enhancing the region’s tourism potential. As per information available with TahirRihat.com, the Federation expressed strong optimism regarding the proposed expansion of the airport and emphasized the need for better air connectivity.
The Federation highlighted that Jammu receives approximately one crore visitors annually, encompassing pilgrims, tourists, business travelers, and individuals visiting for various purposes. Despite this substantial influx, Jammu reportedly lacks sufficient direct air connectivity to major metropolitan and tourist hubs across India. To address this, the members collectively called for the introduction of additional flights from Jammu and the initiation of direct flight services to all major Indian cities as soon as possible.
The Federation members further emphasized that upon completion of the airport expansion project, Jammu Airport should operate around the clock, 24 hours a day, to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic and growing tourism demands. Additionally, the Federation strongly advocated for granting international airport status to Jammu Airport, asserting that such a move would significantly boost tourism, trade, pilgrimage travel, and economic growth throughout the Jammu region.
According to the Tourism Federation of Jammu, Jammu, as the gateway to prominent religious and tourist destinations, warrants world-class aviation infrastructure and global connectivity. The Federation also demanded the introduction of intercity air connectivity from Jammu to various tourist destinations within the region to facilitate smoother and faster movement of tourists. Members stated that improved regional connectivity would greatly benefit local tourism stakeholders, including hoteliers, transporters, traders, and allied sectors dependent on tourism activities.
Rajesh Gupta, chairman of the Federation, led the meeting, with participation from executive members including Kiran Wattal, Amrik Singh, B.B. Kotwal, Abhay Bakaya, Ajay Gupta, Nishant Gupta, Gurmeet Singh, and Harish Gupta. The discussions at the recent TFoJ meeting underscore the critical role of infrastructure development and connectivity in driving the tourism sector in Jammu. The demands put forth by the Federation reflect the industry’s eagerness to tap into the region’s potential as a major tourist destination. The successful implementation of these proposed improvements could substantially contribute to the region’s economic growth and enhance its appeal to a broader range of travelers.
The push for enhanced air connectivity comes at a time when the aviation industry in India is experiencing significant growth and expansion. Increased air travel accessibility is viewed as a key factor in promoting tourism and economic development in various regions. The demands made by the Tourism Federation of Jammu align with broader national efforts to improve air infrastructure and connectivity across the country. The potential upgrade of Jammu Airport to international status could unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism, fostering closer ties with international markets. The Federation’s call for intercity air connectivity within the region is also aimed at streamlining travel logistics and encouraging more tourists to explore Jammu’s diverse attractions.
The Jammu region has long been recognized for its rich cultural heritage, religious significance, and scenic landscapes. However, realizing its full tourism potential hinges on addressing existing infrastructure gaps and enhancing connectivity. The Tourism Federation of Jammu is actively engaged in advocating for policies and initiatives that support the sustainable growth of the tourism sector. The collaborative approach involving various stakeholders, including government authorities, airport officials, and industry representatives, is crucial for ensuring the successful implementation of the proposed improvements. The Federation’s efforts to promote tourism in Jammu are expected to contribute significantly to the region’s economic prosperity and enhance its reputation as a prominent tourist destination.
