Authorities in Kashmir are intensifying their efforts to dismantle narco-terrorism networks operating in the region, with the State Investigation Agency (SIA) taking decisive action against individuals involved in these illegal activities. The latest move involves the attachment of immovable property belonging to a Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)-based operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a banned militant organization.
The property, located in the Kupwara district, was seized as part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). According to an official statement, the case, initially registered as FIR No. 03/2023, was later transferred to the SIA Kashmir after investigators discovered links to terror financing and cross-border narco-terrorism. As per information available with TahirRihat.com, the agency believes that cracking down on these networks is crucial for maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The investigation has revealed that the accused, Zameer Ahmad Lone, son of Ahmad Gul Lone, is actively involved in narco-smuggling and terror-related activities aimed at destabilizing the region. He is a resident of Mandiyan Keran in Kupwara but is currently operating from PoJK. Authorities reported that Lone has been declared a proclaimed offender by a competent court for evading arrest and continuing his anti-national activities from across the border.
The SIA Kashmir presented detailed evidence before the court, which led to an order for the attachment of Lone’s property. The seized property includes one kanal and 14.37 marlas of land located under Khasra No. 113 in Mandiyan Keran, Kupwara. The attachment process was conducted by a specialized SIA team, with the presence of the Executive Magistrate and local revenue officials, ensuring compliance with legal procedures.
Prior to this action, the SIA Kashmir had filed a comprehensive charge sheet before the court, outlining substantial evidence related to narco-trafficking, terror funding, and cross-border militant connections. The agency’s statement emphasized its commitment to identifying and prosecuting individuals and groups engaged in activities that threaten the sovereignty and security of the nation.
The SIA Kashmir underscored that this is part of a broader effort under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ to combat drug abuse and sever the connections between narcotics trade and terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. By targeting the financial networks that support these activities, the agency aims to weaken the foundations of terrorism and create a safer environment for the region’s residents.
In coordination with law enforcement and civil agencies, SIA Kashmir said it remains committed to investigating narco-terror cases while promoting preventive and awareness initiatives. The goal is to build a drug-free society, which is seen as essential for long-term stability and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest action underscores the challenges that security agencies face in tackling cross-border terrorism. The involvement of individuals based in PoJK adds a layer of complexity to the issue, requiring coordinated efforts between various agencies and international cooperation to effectively address the threat.
The attachment of property is a significant step in disrupting the operations of these networks. By seizing assets derived from illegal activities, authorities aim to deprive militants of the resources they need to carry out attacks and further their agenda. The SIA’s focus on financial investigations is seen as a crucial component of counter-terrorism strategy worldwide.
The move also sends a strong message to those involved in narco-terrorism that their actions will not be tolerated. By holding individuals accountable for their crimes, authorities hope to deter others from engaging in similar activities. The agency’s commitment to pursuing legal action against these individuals reflects a broader effort to maintain the rule of law and ensure justice for victims of terrorism.
The SIA Kashmir’s efforts are part of the government’s overall strategy to address the root causes of terrorism in the region. In addition to law enforcement measures, the government is also focusing on development initiatives, job creation, and promoting social harmony. By addressing the underlying grievances that can lead to radicalization, authorities hope to create a more resilient and peaceful society.
The ongoing investigation into narco-terrorism networks is expected to continue, with more arrests and property seizures likely in the coming months. The SIA Kashmir has demonstrated its resolve to dismantle these networks and bring those responsible to justice. As these investigations progress, the details of these complex operations will likely reveal the full extent of the challenges facing law enforcement agencies in the region.
