The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalized a comprehensive strategy to launch an intensive grassroots outreach program across the Union Territory, aiming to consolidate its political presence and challenge the incumbent National Conference (NC)-led government. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by BJP J&K President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. The meeting was attended by key party figures including Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, BJP J&K General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, and party General Secretary Sanjita Dogra.

During the deliberations, the prevailing political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir was thoroughly reviewed. A central theme of the discussion revolved around the growing public discontent attributed to the NC government’s alleged failure to fulfill its electoral promises. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the BJP intends to leverage this perceived public resentment as a cornerstone of its outreach strategy. The party aims to strengthen its connection with the electorate at the foundational level, moving beyond traditional political engagement to ensure a more direct and impactful communication with citizens.

Preparations for the upcoming ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign were also a significant agenda item. The BJP leadership emphasized the need for grand Tiranga rallies and patriotic programs to be organized across the Union Territory, underscoring the party’s commitment to fostering nationalistic sentiment. Sat Sharma, in his remarks, asserted that the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has consistently championed nationalism and accelerated development in Jammu and Kashmir. He contrasted this with the NC and the PDP, whom he accused of misleading the public through what he termed as ‘false narratives’. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, according to Sharma, is envisioned to evolve into a mass movement, with active participation from BJP MLAs, former legislators, and party leaders at all levels. The initiative also plans to honor the families of martyrs through felicitations and adorn public spaces, including important chowks, public places, and statues of national icons, with the Tricolour to commemorate their sacrifices.

Sat Sharma further claimed that the populace of Jammu and Kashmir is increasingly turning away from what he described as the ‘politics of deception, misinformation, and dynastic interests’ propagated by the NC and the PDP. He stated that the people are instead placing their trust in the development-centric governance model championed by Prime Minister Modi. This sentiment, according to the BJP leadership, presents a significant opportunity for the party to expand its support base and solidify its political standing in the region. The strategy to counter the narratives of opposition parties is expected to be a key component of the grassroots outreach, with a focus on presenting factual information and highlighting the achievements of the central government.

Echoing these sentiments, Sunil Sharma alleged that the NC government has fallen short of meeting the aspirations of the people, leading to a surge in public dissatisfaction. He attributed this dissatisfaction to poor governance, unfulfilled promises, and what he termed as ‘misplaced priorities’ of the current administration. The Leader of Opposition stated that BJP legislators and party workers would be actively engaged in countering the misinformation allegedly being spread by the NC and the PDP. Their mission, he outlined, would be to disseminate the message of development, nationalism, and public welfare to every household across Jammu and Kashmir. This aggressive counter-narrative strategy is designed to directly address public concerns and present the BJP’s vision as a viable alternative for the region’s progress.

Ashok Koul, the BJP J&K General Secretary (Organisation), provided specific directives to party leaders, emphasizing the critical need for meticulous planning of every program, extending down to the booth level. He stressed that each organizational unit must ensure maximum public participation in patriotic programs and actively strengthen grassroots connections. Koul further underscored the importance of effectively countering what he described as ‘anti-development and misleading propaganda’ through the dissemination of facts, adherence to discipline, and continuous public engagement. The emphasis on booth-level planning indicates a strategic focus on micro-level political mobilization, aiming to ensure that the party’s message reaches every voter and that local issues are addressed effectively. The party believes that by strengthening its presence at the grassroots, it can build a more robust and responsive political organization capable of effectively serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP’s intensified outreach and criticism of the NC government signal a proactive political stance ahead of future electoral engagements in the Union Territory. The party’s strategy appears to be a multi-pronged approach, combining patriotic campaigns with direct engagement on governance issues and a concerted effort to counter opposition narratives. The success of this strategy will likely depend on its ability to resonate with the diverse electorate of Jammu and Kashmir and translate grassroots mobilization into tangible political gains.
