Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh stated on Friday that areas situated along the International Border, which have historically grappled with inadequate infrastructure and connectivity challenges, have undergone a significant transformation under the current BJP-led Central government. He emphasized the construction of border bunkers, installation of mobile towers, and the development of roads extending up to the zero line. Furthermore, he highlighted the implementation of a 4 percent reservation for residents living along the International Border and the overall strengthening of border infrastructure. This, he noted, is in addition to improvements in road and rail connectivity and other development initiatives specifically aimed at enhancing the safety and quality of life for those residing in border regions.
Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that Dr. Singh made these remarks while leading a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ that extended to the zero line on the Indo-Pak border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. During the event, the Union Minister took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the dedication and service rendered by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel who are tasked with guarding the nation’s frontier. He underscored the critical role played by the BSF in ensuring the country’s security, both during periods of conflict and in times of peace.
Paying tribute to the BSF personnel deployed along the border, Dr. Singh acknowledged that the region has historically faced the persistent challenge of cross-border firing. However, he observed that the local population is now able to live with a greater sense of peace and security, able to sleep without fear, knowing that soldiers remain vigilant throughout the night, safeguarding the nation’s borders. He articulated that the service and sacrifices made by these security personnel represent a significant contribution to the nation’s well-being and security.
The Union Minister also commended the BSF personnel for their effective handling of the recent flood situation, noting that their role extended beyond their primary duty of border guarding. He pointed out that their prompt response during emergencies, coupled with their involvement in relief operations and their assistance to civilians, demonstrated a profound commitment to the welfare of the people and the nation as a whole. This multifaceted role, he suggested, highlights the dedication of the BSF beyond conventional security duties.
Dr. Singh further elaborated on the developmental progress witnessed in Kathua and the broader Jammu region over the past decade. He asserted that the region has entered a new era of development following 2014, marked by substantial improvements across various essential sectors. These improvements, he detailed, include significant advancements in connectivity, infrastructure development, healthcare services, educational facilities, and industrial growth, among other key areas. The minister’s statements suggest a comprehensive approach to regional development under the current administration.
He contended that the preceding ten years have been characterized by unprecedented development within the region. According to Dr. Singh, the BJP-led Central government has actively worked to address and rectify deficiencies and gaps that had accumulated over many years. He stated that the government has successfully ‘made up for all the shortcomings’ through a focused approach to development and the diligent implementation of major projects.
