Ladakh Member of Parliament Haneefa Jan has formally requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make public the draft proposal that has been formulated following discussions between various Ladakh groups and the Union Home Ministry. MP Jan emphasized the urgency of releasing this proposal into the public domain at the earliest opportunity, citing its importance for the future constitutional safeguards and democratic setup of the Union Territory.
The appeal was made during a detailed and reportedly fruitful meeting between MP Jan and Home Minister Shah in New Delhi. The discussions encompassed a range of long-pending demands and crucial developmental issues pertinent to Ladakh. As per information available with Tahir Rihat, MP Jan reminded the Home Minister about the consensus reached during recent deliberations between representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and key Ladakh stakeholders, namely the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Leh Apex Body. These discussions had focused on significant matters concerning constitutional protections and establishing a democratic framework for Ladakh.
Sources indicate to Tahir Rihat that the minutes of these meetings were subsequently finalized and officially signed by members representing both sides of the negotiation. However, MP Jan highlighted that the Draft Proposal, which is intended to be based on this agreed-upon consensus, has yet to be released. He strongly urged that this draft be brought forward and made accessible to the public without delay. The rationale behind this request, as stated by the MP, is to enable the High-Powered Committee to review and approve the proposal promptly, thereby avoiding any further postponements in addressing these critical issues.
During the meeting, MP Jan also reiterated the demand for the establishment of a Ladakh Public Service Commission. This demand is part of a broader four-point agenda, and the MP specifically stressed the need to expedite pending government recruitments. He articulated that delays in recruitment processes could adversely affect the youth of Ladakh, potentially leading to significant disadvantages for them. Furthermore, MP Jan raised the issue of creating two separate Parliamentary constituencies for Ladakh. In addition to these matters, the Member of Parliament urged the Home Minister to ensure the swift submission of the report compiled by the Justice BS Chauhan Committee. The early release of this report, he stated, is essential for ensuring that the affected families and the people of Ladakh receive the justice they are entitled to.
