The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) along with two other individuals in Jammu and Kashmir as part of an ongoing bribery investigation. The arrests, which occurred on Saturday, stem from allegations of a demand for a bribe to facilitate the release of subsidies under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
Sources indicate to Tahir Rihat that the primary accused, SDAO Rajan Sharma, is alleged to have solicited a sum of Rs 35,000 from a complainant. This payment was reportedly demanded in exchange for the release of subsidy benefits to which the complainant was entitled under the HADP initiative. The investigation further suggests that Sharma did not directly receive the bribe but instead instructed the subsidy applicant to deliver the funds to either Agricultural Extension Assistant (AEA) Abhilashi Sharma or a private individual identified as Ashok Kumar.
Following these allegations, the CBI orchestrated a sting operation. Officials from the investigative agency successfully apprehended AEA Abhilashi Sharma and the private individual, Ashok Kumar, red-handed. According to a statement released by a CBI spokesperson, the two were caught in the act of demanding and accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 15,000 from the complainant. This immediate capture of the intermediaries provided crucial evidence for the ongoing case.
Subsequent to the arrests of Abhilashi Sharma and Ashok Kumar, SDAO Rajan Sharma was taken into custody. The spokesperson confirmed that Sharma was arrested from his residence.
