Jammu police have arrested three individuals in separate operations across the region, seizing a significant quantity of narcotics and two firearms. The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession in the Union Territory.

In one of the operations, Shameem Begum, identified as a police follower, was apprehended during a routine check at Balol in the Miran Sahib area. Authorities discovered 15 grams of heroin concealed on her two-wheeler. A case has been registered against Begum under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The spokesperson for the Jammu police emphasized that this action demonstrates the department’s commitment to impartial law enforcement, regardless of an individual’s position or affiliation. Further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the seized contraband and to identify the broader supply network and any potential accomplices.

Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that in a subsequent successful operation, police apprehended two suspected criminals in the Digiana Industrial Estate area. During patrolling, officers recovered two pistols and 113 grams of heroin from their possession. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vansh Sharma and Yogeshwar Singh, both reportedly residents of Bari Brahmana. According to the police spokesperson, a pistol, a digital weighing machine, and 100 grams of heroin were found on Sharma. Singh was found in possession of a country-made pistol and 13 grams of heroin. Cases have been registered against both Sharma and Singh under various sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act, with ongoing investigations to uncover further details of their alleged criminal activities.

The Jammu police have reiterated their resolve to maintain a strict stance against drug peddlers and those involved in illegal arms trade. These recent seizures highlight the persistent challenges faced by security forces in the region, as well as their proactive approach in dismantling criminal networks. The involvement of a police follower in one of the incidents raises questions about internal vigilance and accountability, a point acknowledged by the police spokesperson’s statement regarding impartial enforcement. The ongoing investigations are expected to shed more light on the modus operandi of these individuals and their connections within the illicit trade. The recovery of firearms alongside narcotics suggests a dangerous nexus that poses a significant threat to public safety. Authorities are keen to establish whether the seized weapons were intended for use in facilitating drug trafficking or for other criminal purposes. The success of these operations is attributed to the diligent patrolling and intelligence-gathering efforts of the Jammu police. The department has consistently urged the public to report any suspicious activities that could aid in preventing such crimes and ensuring a safer environment for all residents. The continuous flow of information from the public is considered vital in these efforts. The police department has also been actively engaged in awareness campaigns to educate the community about the dangers of drug abuse and the legal consequences of involvement in such activities. The current crackdown is part of a broader strategy to curb the influx of illegal substances and weapons into the region, which has been a long-standing concern for security agencies. The investigation into the supply chain is a critical component, as it aims to disrupt the larger network of drug traffickers and arms dealers operating in and around Jammu. The police are committed to bringing all those involved to justice and ensuring that the seized items do not reach the hands of anti-social elements. The consistent pressure exerted by law enforcement agencies on criminal elements is expected to deter future activities and contribute to a more secure Jammu.
