The administration in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, has ordered the immediate closure of two private diagnostic centers for failing to comply with healthcare regulations. The enforcement action was taken following directions from Reasi Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek, who emphasized the administration’s commitment to ensuring adherence to the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010. This move underscores a broader effort by local authorities to maintain stringent oversight of private healthcare facilities operating within the district, aiming to safeguard public health and patient safety.
A joint inspection team, comprising key health officials and law enforcement personnel, conducted a thorough review of several private diagnostic laboratories across Reasi. The team included the Chief Medical Officer of Reasi, the Medical Superintendent, district monitoring officers, and police representatives. Their mandate was to verify compliance with established norms and regulations governing clinical establishments. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that during this drive, two specific laboratories, Barotra Diagnostics Laboratory and Durga Diagnostics Laboratory, both located in Reasi town, were found to be operating with expired registrations, a critical violation of the Act.
Further scrutiny by the inspection team revealed additional irregularities at Barotra Diagnostics Laboratory. Inspectors observed an unauthorized display board that was advertising consultation and Outpatient Department (OPD) services. This indicates a potential overreach in the services offered without proper authorization or registration, raising concerns about the scope and legitimacy of their operations. The discovery of these violations, coupled with the fact that the laboratories had previously received notices regarding non-compliance, prompted swift and decisive action from the district authorities. The administration’s stance is clear: adherence to regulatory frameworks is non-negotiable for all healthcare providers.
In response to the serious nature of the violations and the persistent non-compliance, the authorities have not only ordered the immediate cessation of all operations at both Barotra Diagnostics Laboratory and Durga Diagnostics Laboratory but have also imposed a financial penalty of Rs 10,000 on each establishment. This penalty serves as a deterrent and a clear message to other private clinical establishments about the consequences of neglecting regulatory requirements. The proprietors of the sealed laboratories have been explicitly directed to suspend all activities until their registrations are renewed and brought into full alignment with the prevailing regulatory standards. This directive ensures that the facilities will not resume operations until they meet all legal and operational prerequisites, thereby mitigating any immediate risks to public health.
The district administration has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the strict enforcement of healthcare regulations throughout Reasi. Officials have issued a stern warning that such enforcement drives and subsequent actions will continue against any unregistered or non-compliant clinical establishments. The primary objective behind these stringent measures is to protect the well-being of the public and ensure the safety of patients seeking diagnostic and healthcare services. By actively monitoring and enforcing regulations, the administration aims to foster a more responsible and accountable private healthcare sector within the district, promoting trust and reliability in medical services provided to the community. The ongoing vigilance is expected to encourage other establishments to proactively ensure their compliance, thereby enhancing the overall quality of healthcare infrastructure in Reasi.
