Two Fatalities in Ramban SUV Plunge into Gorge

Two individuals have died and seven others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir late on Wednesday. The vehicle, identified as a commercial SUV, was carrying the victims when it veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on the Senabati-Chunthan Road near the Chiwley Bridge.

Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the accident took place around 10 p.m. as the vehicle was en route from Senabati towards Chunthan. Emergency services and local residents were quick to respond, with the injured being promptly transported to the Primary Health Centre in Ukhral for initial medical attention. Due to the severity of their injuries, several individuals were subsequently referred to the District Hospital in Ramban for further treatment.

Tragically, two of the injured succumbed to their wounds while undergoing medical care. The vehicle involved in the accident was a Tata Sumo with the registration number JK14-9715. All nine occupants of the vehicle were residents of Village Senabati, highlighting the localized impact of this devastating event. The swift actions of the local community and police were crucial in evacuating the injured from the accident site to the nearby health facility.

Further medical transfers were organized for those with more critical conditions. Six individuals were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag, while two individuals in a particularly grave state were transported to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura for specialized care. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh acknowledged the incident, stating that he had spoken with the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, to ascertain the details of the accident and the ongoing relief efforts. The focus remains on providing the best possible medical care to the injured and supporting the families of those who lost their lives.
