Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a crucial meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) in Srinagar on Tuesday to meticulously assess the prevailing security scenario across the Union Territory. The high-level gathering, held at Lok Bhavan, brought together key military and police leadership to deliberate on strategies to maintain peace and combat emerging threats.
Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the meeting was attended by a distinguished group of senior officials, including General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma; Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat; and the General Officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Balbir Singh, alongside other pivotal officers. The Unified Headquarters serves as the central coordinating body for all security and intelligence operations within Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the significance of this review.
During the session, Lieutenant Governor Sinha extended his commendations to the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the intelligence agencies for their concerted efforts in ensuring the seamless and peaceful conclusion of the annual Amarnath Yatra. This annual pilgrimage is a significant event that requires extensive security arrangements and coordination.
The Lieutenant Governor underscored the paramount importance of real-time coordination and seamless information sharing among all security agencies. He emphasized that such integrated efforts are indispensable for the effective achievement of overarching security objectives in the region. According to the Lieutenant Governor, a robust and foolproof counter-strategy must be rigorously implemented to effectively sever the logistical and financial lifelines of terrorists operating in the Union Territory. He further stressed the imperative to intensify measures aimed at disrupting and thwarting infiltration attempts from across the borders. The directive also included the continuation of decisive operations to neutralize any remaining elements of the terrorist ecosystem. He articulated the need to aggressively target and dismantle networks that are actively engaged in misleading and radicalizing the local populace.
Furthermore, Lieutenant Governor Sinha issued clear directives to the security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to proactively work towards strengthening public trust. This is to be achieved by ensuring that the voices of the citizens are heard and that their grievances are promptly and effectively addressed. Building and maintaining public confidence is seen as a critical component in the long-term strategy for peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting also provided a platform to thoroughly review the operational preparedness of the police and various security agencies in anticipation of the challenging winter months. The Lieutenant Governor specifically highlighted the necessity of maintaining a state of heightened vigilance to counter any potential emerging threats that may arise during this period. This proactive approach aims to ensure that the security apparatus remains agile and responsive to the evolving security landscape.
