Warangal, Telangana, has become home to India‘s first PM MITRA Park, a significant step in bolstering the nation’s textile industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the park, a project developed at a cost of Rs 1,695.54 crore, signaling a major push towards integrated textile manufacturing and export capabilities.
The PM MITRA Park in Warangal is projected to attract investments exceeding Rs 6,000 crore and is already showing considerable progress, with 62 percent of the park’s area already allocated to various textile manufacturers, according to the Textile Ministry. This development aligns with the government’s vision to transform India into a global textile hub by enhancing infrastructure and streamlining the value chain from farm to foreign markets. As per information available with TahirRihat.com, the park’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure are expected to significantly reduce logistics costs and improve the competitiveness of Indian textile products.
Spread across an expansive 1,327 acres, the park is designed to create extensive employment opportunities throughout the textile sector. The project anticipates generating over 24,400 direct jobs, with numerous positions already filled during the construction and initial operational phases. This initiative is part of a broader scheme, the PM MITRA Scheme, which includes the development of similar parks across seven states, including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Each park is conceived as a modern, large-scale, and integrated facility, covering the entire textile value chain.
The PM MITRA Parks are designed to operationalize the Government of India’s 5F vision—Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign— by integrating the textile supply chain and enhancing manufacturing efficiency. During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the Warangal PM Mitra Park will expedite the textile revolution in the country, creating substantial employment opportunities, especially for women. This focus on women’s employment reflects a broader strategy to promote gender inclusivity in the manufacturing sector.
The park’s infrastructure includes excellent multimodal connectivity to major railway networks and seaports, ensuring smooth logistics for international trade. Designed as a world-class industrial ecosystem, the park is equipped with advanced infrastructure such as an extensive internal road network, a dedicated power substation, and a reliable water supply. These features are intended to provide a conducive environment for textile manufacturing and attract further investment.
Industries establishing operations within the park will benefit from access to world-class facilities benchmarked against leading textile mega-parks worldwide, including Competitive Incentive Support (CIS) under the PM MITRA scheme. To further incentivize investment, a fund of Rs 300 crore has been allocated to each park. Additionally, units within the PM MITRA parks are eligible for benefits in conjunction with other Government of India schemes, creating a synergistic effect to boost industrial growth and textile exports.
The establishment of the PM MITRA Park in Warangal represents a crucial step in modernizing India’s textile industry and enhancing its global competitiveness. By focusing on integrated development, infrastructure improvements, and strategic incentives, the government aims to create a thriving ecosystem that drives economic growth and generates employment opportunities, thereby strengthening India’s position in the global textile market. According to the Textile Ministry, the project is expected to have a significant impact on the regional economy of Telangana, fostering growth and development in ancillary industries and services.
