Multi-Layered Security Deployed on Rajouri-Poonch Highway for Budha Amarnath Yatra

Extensive multi-layer security arrangements have been implemented along the Rajouri-Poonch National Highway (NH-144A) as the annual Shri Budha Amarnath Yatra progresses into its second day. Security forces are maintaining a state of heightened vigilance to ensure the secure transit of pilgrims heading towards the ancient shrine. The highway, a critical artery connecting Jammu with the districts of Rajouri and Poonch, has seen a significant increase in security personnel deployment. Devotees undertaking the journey to the revered Budha Amarnath shrine, situated in Poonch district, are being closely monitored.

Personnel drawn from various security agencies, including the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), have been strategically positioned at vital points and along vulnerable stretches of the route. These deployments are part of a comprehensive security grid designed to safeguard the pilgrims throughout their journey. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the security forces are actively engaged in intensified surveillance operations, conducting thorough vehicle checks, and meticulously monitoring all movement along the highway. The primary objective of these stringent measures is to ensure the safety of the pilgrims while simultaneously facilitating the smooth and unimpeded flow of traffic during the pilgrimage period.

This enhanced security posture was established just a day after the commencement of the yatra from Jammu. The first batch of pilgrims was officially flagged off from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on Monday by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The 12-day pilgrimage is scheduled to continue until August 28, culminating on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The Budha Amarnath shrine itself is a significant pilgrimage site within the Jammu region, drawing a considerable number of devotees from across the nation during the holy month of Shravan. The shrine is located in Rajpura village, within the Mandi tehsil of Poonch district.

In the lead-up to the yatra, both the civil administration and the security agencies undertook a thorough review of all necessary arrangements. Preparations were coordinated with a particular emphasis on security protocols, efficient traffic management, and the provision of adequate facilities for the pilgrims along the entire route. The Rajouri-Poonch stretch of the highway holds particular strategic importance as NH-144A serves as the principal road link connecting Jammu with Poonch. The highway traverses through key locations such as Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Kalakote, and Rajouri before finally reaching Poonch.

Given the inherent strategic sensitivity of the Rajouri-Poonch region, security agencies are maintaining a close watch on all critical and vulnerable points along the highway and surrounding areas. Additional personnel have also been deployed in the vicinity of locations directly associated with the pilgrimage, further bolstering the overall security apparatus. The Budha Amarnath shrine is nestled at an elevation of approximately 4,600 feet, in close proximity to the Pulastya River. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is a traditional practice for pilgrims to take a holy dip in the river before proceeding to offer their prayers at the shrine.

The heightened security deployment along NH-144A is anticipated to remain in effect for the entire duration of the pilgrimage. Both security and civil administration agencies are maintaining close coordination to ensure that the yatra proceeds in a safe, orderly, and peaceful manner. This collaborative approach underscores the commitment to providing a secure environment for the thousands of devotees participating in this significant religious event. The successful conduct of the yatra relies heavily on the seamless integration of security measures and administrative support, ensuring that the spiritual journey of the pilgrims is both fulfilling and secure. The continuous monitoring and adaptation of security strategies are crucial in addressing any potential challenges that may arise during the pilgrimage. The focus remains on a proactive and responsive security framework that prioritizes the well-being of all participants.
