The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir has orchestrated a substantial reshuffle involving multiple senior police officers, a move that significantly alters the leadership landscape within the region’s police force. This administrative action, enacted on Thursday, impacts key positions across various branches of the department, including crucial intelligence and operational units.
Among the most prominent changes is the transfer of Nitish Kumar, who previously held the position of Additional Director General of CID, Jammu and Kashmir. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that MK Sinha, formerly serving as the ADG Headquarters, has been appointed as the new ADG CID, Jammu and Kashmir, taking over from Kumar. Nitish Kumar himself has been reassigned to the role of ADG, Armed Police, Jammu and Kashmir, marking a shift in his departmental responsibilities.
Further adjustments have been made at the Inspector General (IG) level. Tejinder Singh, who was the IG CID, Jammu and Kashmir, has been transferred and posted as the IG of Jammu Zone. This appointment sees him replace Bhim Sen Tuti, who has subsequently been transferred and posted as IG, Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir. These movements indicate a strategic redistribution of leadership to bolster regional command and control structures.
In another significant posting, Uttam Chand, previously IGP (Police Operations & Services) at the police headquarters, has been transferred and appointed as the IGP Railways, Jammu and Kashmir. He is slated to succeed Vivek Gupta in this role. Notably, Uttam Chand will also continue to hold his prior responsibilities, underscoring the department’s reliance on his experience across multiple domains. The appointment of new leadership in the Railways sector could signal an increased focus on security and operational efficiency within this critical transport infrastructure.
The reshuffling also affects the security apparatus, with Sujit Kumar, the IG Security, Jammu and Kashmir, being transferred and posted as IG, Kashmir Zone. This move fills an available vacancy and is expected to bring fresh perspectives to security management in the Kashmir Valley. Concurrently, Vivek Gupta, who was the IGP Railways, Jammu and Kashmir, has been transferred and appointed as the IGP Security, Jammu and Kashmir, taking over from Sujit Kumar. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will also see new leadership, with Shakti Kumar Pathak being designated as its Director. At the Superintendent of Police (SSP) level, several key appointments have been made. Sahil Sarangal, who was serving as SSP Handwara, has been transferred and posted as SSP Pulwama, filling an existing vacancy. Sunny Gupta, the Additional SP Anantnag, has been transferred and posted as SSP Kishtwar, replacing Naresh Singh. Naresh Singh, in turn, has been transferred and posted as SSP Rajouri, also against an available vacancy. These transfers at the district level are crucial for maintaining law and order and implementing policing strategies effectively at the grassroots.
