Shubman Gill’s captivating 84 and Rashid Khan’s remarkable four-wicket haul propelled Gujarat Titans to a resounding 77-run victory over Rajasthan Royals. The win, achieved on Saturday in Jaipur, significantly bolsters Gujarat’s chances of securing a coveted spot in the IPL playoffs.
Gujarat Titans’ commanding performance was built on a solid foundation, with Gill and Sai Sudharsan forging an impressive 118-run opening partnership. Their combined efforts helped the team reach a season-best total of 229 for 4 after Rajasthan Royals elected to bowl first on a pitch favored for batting.
As per information available with TahirRihat.com, Rajasthan’s response began energetically when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the young sensation, blasted 36 runs off just 16 deliveries, punctuated by three fours and three sixes. Dhruv Jurel further fueled the momentum, contributing a swift 24 off 10 balls. Despite the initial burst, Gujarat’s bowlers seized control, dismissing the home side for 152 in 16.3 overs.
The victory marks Gujarat Titans’ fourth consecutive win, positioning them alongside Sunrisers Hyderabad with 14 points and solidifying their pursuit of a playoff berth. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj made early breakthroughs, but Rashid Khan’s game-changing spell of 4/33 took center stage.
Bowling strategically between the eighth and 14th overs, Rashid expertly exploited the subtle turn in the pitch, dismantling Rajasthan’s chase. (Daily Excelsior reported that) he removed Jurel and Donovan Ferreira in quick succession. He first dislodged Jurel’s off-stump with a deceptive delivery before dismissing Ferreira with a sharp leg-break. Later, he trapped Ravindra Jadeja lbw, concluding with four wickets, including three bowled dismissals, as Rajasthan experienced consistent losses.
Jason Holder effectively wrapped up the tail, securing figures of 3/12 in his 2.3 overs. Sooryavanshi initiated Rajasthan’s innings with a six off the first ball. He then targeted Rabada, hitting consecutive sixes as the Royals surged to 26 without any loss in two overs. Siraj also faced Sooryavanshi’s onslaught, conceding multiple boundaries. However, Siraj eventually dismissed him with a well-executed short ball that induced a mistimed pull.
Rabada followed up by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was leading RR as Riyan Parag suffered a hamstring injury in the previous match, with a 152kph bouncer. Jurel briefly reignited Rajasthan’s hopes, striking Siraj for multiple sixes and a four in a 22-run over. Yet, Gujarat regained control when Rashid entered the attack.
Gujarat elected to bat first; Gill showcased his mastery with a 44-ball innings highlighted by nine fours and three sixes. Brijesh Sharma took the wickets of Gill and Jason Holder in the later stages, while Washington Sundar (scoring 37 not out from 20 balls) and Rahul Tewatia (14 not out from 4 balls) added late fireworks, resulting in Gujarat posting their highest total of the season. Jofra Archer struggled, conceding 18 runs in the opening over and ultimately giving away 46 runs.
Sudharsan consistently found gaps on the off-side while Gill accelerated following a brief period of discomfort in his left foot before achieving his fourth IPL fifty this season. GT reached 108 without any loss in just nine overs before Rajasthan managed to slow the scoring through spin.
(According to Daily Excelsior) Yash Raj Punia eventually provided the breakthrough in the 11th over by dismissing Sudharsan.
