Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have escalated their efforts to dismantle the infrastructure supporting terrorist activities with the seizure of property belonging to a key operative of the Hizbul Mujahideen. The action, which took place in the Bandipora district, underscores the ongoing campaign to weaken terror networks operating in the region.
The Sopore police executed the attachment of a land parcel spanning 10 Marlas in the Kehnusa area of Bandipora. The estimated value of the land is approximately Rs 20 lakh. As per information available with TahirRihat.com, the property is linked to Majid Ahmad Sofi, also known as Bisati, who hails from New Colony in Sopore. Sofi is accused of orchestrating terror-related activities from across the border.
The case against Sofi is registered at the Sopore police station, invoking multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act, a police spokesperson stated. The investigation into Sofi’s activities has revealed his alleged role as a terror handler operating from Pakistan or Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. He is accused of actively facilitating and coordinating terrorist operations within the Kashmir Valley (the spokesperson said).
Law enforcement agencies are focusing on individuals who provide logistical and financial support to militant groups. The attachment of property serves as a warning to others who may be aiding or abetting terrorist activities. By seizing assets and disrupting the financial networks of these groups, authorities aim to curtail their ability to recruit, train, and execute attacks.
The crackdown on terror financing is a multi-pronged approach that involves collaboration between various agencies, including the police, intelligence services, and financial regulatory bodies. This collaborative effort is designed to identify and dismantle the complex web of transactions and support structures that sustain terrorist organizations.
The broader implications of this action extend beyond the immediate seizure of property. It sends a strong message that those involved in terrorism, whether directly or indirectly, will face consequences under the law. The operation also demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region by targeting the root causes of terrorism.
The authorities are also working to raise awareness among the local population about the dangers of supporting or harboring terrorists. Community engagement programs and outreach efforts are being implemented to encourage people to report any suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The focus on dismantling terror networks includes measures to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies and counter online radicalization. Efforts are underway to monitor and regulate social media platforms to curb the dissemination of propaganda and recruitment materials used by terrorist groups.
The property attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate, revenue officials, and independent witnesses, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal protocols. The police spokesperson emphasized that all due legal procedures were followed during the operation.
The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains a key focus for the government, with ongoing efforts to strengthen border security, enhance intelligence gathering, and improve coordination among security forces. These measures are aimed at preventing infiltration by militants and detecting and neutralizing existing terror cells.
The government’s strategy also involves promoting development and economic opportunities in the region to address the underlying socio-economic factors that can contribute to radicalization. Investments in infrastructure, education, and employment are seen as crucial to creating a more stable and prosperous environment.
The action against Majid Ahmad Sofi and the seizure of his property are part of a larger effort to create a secure and peaceful environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities remain committed to taking all necessary steps to counter terrorism and safeguard the region from further violence.
