J&K’s LG Sinha Connects Drug Abuse and Terrorism in Anti-Drug Campaign

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir has declared drug abuse and terrorism to be intertwined problems, emphasizing the need for a unified societal effort to combat both. While participating in a “Drug-Free J&K Campaign” padyatra in Anantnag, Sinha urged the public to speak out against the rising drug problem.

Sinha stressed the importance of a comprehensive approach involving schools, colleges, families, sports grounds, villages, and theatre stages to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse across the Union Territory. He highlighted the crucial need for the administration and society to recognize the connection between drug trafficking and terrorism in order to effectively address both issues. As per information available with TahirRihat.com, Sinha stated that the neighboring country is intentionally smuggling drugs into Jammu and Kashmir, using the money generated to fund terrorism, build narco-networks, and promote radicalization.

According to Sinha, drug money is being used by terrorist organizations to procure weapons and spread violence, while drugs are simultaneously destroying the future of the region’s youth. He pointed out that the narco-terror network has caused immense suffering to generations in Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha reiterated his stance that drug addiction and terrorism are inseparable challenges, vowing to continue the fight until both are eradicated. The Lieutenant Governor has instructed the police and civil administration to intensify the anti-drug campaign in every Anantnag panchayat, with a focus on vulnerable areas, over the next 71 days.

Sinha reported that a significant blow is being dealt to drug smugglers in Anantnag district. Since April 11, 108 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Narco-properties worth Rs 3.5 crore have been demolished, 22 vehicles seized, 8 driving licenses and registrations cancelled, and 13 drug stores sealed for violating the law. Sinha assured the public that no drug smuggler would be spared and that the entire drug trafficking network would be dismantled.

He emphasized the crucial role of women and youth in combating drugs, encouraging them to assist vulnerable youth in returning to the right path and seeking support from the administration when needed. Sinha appealed to sportspersons, teachers, and religious leaders to dedicate the next 71 days to awareness and rehabilitation efforts, pledging to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. He also called on religious leaders to provide spiritual and moral guidance to youth, warning them about the dangers of substance abuse. Sinha emphasized that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility.

Sinha pledged that the administration would rehabilitate youth affected by drugs, noting that unity amplifies strength. He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice for every terror victim family, highlighting the role of sports infrastructure in channeling youth energy positively and strengthening discipline and sportsmanship.
