J&K Police Apprehend Seven in Drug Busts, Seize Heroin Across Districts

Jammu and Kashmir Police have made significant strides in their ongoing campaign against narcotics, arresting seven individuals suspected of drug peddling and confiscating over 38 grams of heroin in a series of coordinated operations spanning the Samba, Kathua, and Doda districts. The seizures, which occurred over the weekend, underscore the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in the region and the authorities’ commitment to combating it.

In one of the primary operations, acting on credible intelligence, law enforcement officers intercepted a sport utility vehicle (SUV) at Barian-Supwal, strategically positioned along the vital Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Samba district. A thorough search of the vehicle yielded a substantial quantity of contraband, amounting to 22.28 grams of heroin, along with a sharp-edged weapon. Information reaching TahirRihat.com suggests that the four occupants of the vehicle, identified as Bikram Kumar, Bodh Raj alias Shama, Malkit Singh, and Jaspreet Singh, were subsequently apprehended on Sunday. The police also seized the vehicle used in the alleged illicit activity.

Further reinforcing the anti-drug efforts, separate actions were taken in Samba and Kathua districts. In Samba, police apprehended Rafiq Poswal from Nanak Chack during a routine frisking operation. Similarly, in Kathua, Kuldeep Singh was taken into custody at Mangtian Morh, also during a frisking exercise. Each of these individuals was found to be in possession of approximately five grams of heroin, contributing to the overall seizure. These operations highlight the pervasive nature of drug distribution networks and the police’s proactive approach in disrupting them at various levels.

The crackdown extended to Doda town, where police arrested Aqib Javeed. He was intercepted while riding a two-wheeler, and a search revealed 6.90 grams of heroin in his possession. The spokesman for the police department confirmed that all seven arrested individuals have been booked under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legal framework provides for severe penalties for drug-related offenses, reflecting the gravity with which such activities are treated. The investigations into these cases are reportedly ongoing, with authorities seeking to uncover the broader networks and supply chains involved in the drug trade. The successful interdictions demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the dedication of the J&K Police in safeguarding communities from the scourge of drugs. The continuous efforts by the police are crucial in curbing the flow of narcotics and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens across the Union Territory. The seizures, while significant, are part of a larger, sustained effort to dismantle drug trafficking operations that pose a threat to public health and security. The police remain vigilant, utilizing various intelligence sources and operational strategies to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. The cumulative impact of these arrests and seizures is expected to disrupt the availability of illicit substances in the region, thereby reducing drug abuse and its associated societal problems. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling and are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities that could aid in their ongoing efforts.
