The annual Amarnath Yatra has seen an overwhelming response, with over two lakh pilgrims undertaking the spiritual journey to the holy cave shrine in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir within the first eight days of its commencement. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Thursday that the pilgrimage, which began on July 3, has successfully facilitated a significant number of devotees, highlighting the seamless coordination among various agencies involved in managing the event.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Lieutenant Governor Sinha stated that approximately 1.70 lakh pilgrims had paid their respects at the holy cave by the eighth day of the Yatra. He emphasized the robust synergy between the Jammu and Kashmir administration, police, Army, security forces, the shrine board, and all other stakeholders, which has been instrumental in ensuring a hassle-free pilgrimage for the devotees. Later in the evening, Sinha took to the social media platform X to share the updated figure, noting, “In a remarkable testament to faith, the holy Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has crossed the 2 lakh pilgrim mark in just 8 days.” He concluded his post with the devotional chant, “Har Har Mahadev!”
Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that a notable number of devotees arrived for the pilgrimage without prior registration this year. The administration has reportedly made successful arrangements to facilitate their journey by completing the necessary formalities on the spot. Lieutenant Governor Sinha reiterated the commitment to ensuring that every pilgrim returns home with a positive and memorable experience, underscoring the administration’s dedication to pilgrim welfare.
In his efforts to personally assess and enhance the pilgrimage arrangements, Lieutenant Governor Sinha visited the Baltal base camp. During his visit, he conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities available for pilgrims, including the base camp hospital, on-the-spot registration counters, accommodation tents, and other essential services. He issued directives to all concerned departments, stressing the importance of maintaining seamless coordination to ensure the comfort and safety of the devotees. “The comfort of Amarnathji’s devotees must remain the highest priority. From registration to accommodation and movement to darshan, every stage of the pilgrimage should be seamless. All departments are committed to making the journey safe and memorable,” Sinha was quoted as saying.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the dual benefit of the Yatra, noting its role in enriching the spiritual lives of devotees while simultaneously contributing to the economic livelihoods of the local population in Jammu and Kashmir. He engaged in direct interaction with various service providers, sanitation workers, medical professionals, and volunteers managing community kitchens, gathering firsthand feedback on the ground situation and acknowledging their contributions to the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Addressing concerns regarding potential malpractices, Sinha issued strict instructions for legal action against any individual or entity found involved in overcharging pilgrims or facilitating fraudulent registrations. He made it clear that no exceptions would be made, regardless of whether the offender is a service provider, a government employee, or any other associated individual. He ordered that cases be registered immediately in such instances, demonstrating a zero-tolerance policy towards exploitation.
Furthermore, the Lieutenant Governor ordered a comprehensive audit of the sanitation arrangements across the pilgrimage route and directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted supply of drinking water for the pilgrims. The healthcare infrastructure supporting the Yatra is robust, with the 100-bed hospitals at Baltal and Chandanwari operating at full capacity. These facilities are reportedly handling approximately 1,300 to 1,400 out-patient department (OPD) patients daily, providing crucial medical care to both pilgrims and the security personnel deployed along the arduous route.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha appealed to all pilgrims to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the administration and the shrine board. He advised them to contact the nearest Camp Director or security personnel immediately in case of any inconvenience, assuring prompt assistance. The successful management of the Yatra, with its significant pilgrim turnout, reflects the concerted efforts of all involved agencies in providing a secure and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees undertaking this sacred journey to the Amarnath cave shrine.
