In the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district, a particularly perilous situation unfolded where eleven people, including five children, were rescued from a swollen nullah. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that troops of the White Knight Corps, in close collaboration with police, SDRF, and civil administration, undertook multiple life-saving missions. Braving challenging flood conditions and powerful water currents, the Army troops successfully extricated nine individuals, including five children, who were trapped across a flooded nullah near Churung village, south of Thanamandi. Additionally, two young men were rescued after being marooned on an island in the Nowshera Tawi river, near Dhangri.
The Army highlighted in a statement that the prompt response, bravery displayed by the personnel, and the seamless coordination among the involved agencies were instrumental in ensuring the safe recovery of all those who were stranded. The swift action prevented further escalation of the crisis in the flood-ravaged Rajouri region.
Concurrently, in a separate incident, Jammu Police and the SDRF responded to a critical situation involving four children who were stranded in the Tawi river near the Peer Kho temple. The sudden and unexpected rise in the water level posed an immediate threat to their lives. In addition to the children, three youths were also rescued after finding themselves trapped in the river. The police reported that a distress call was received through reliable sources, indicating that the individuals had gone to bathe in the river and became trapped as the water level surged unexpectedly. Acting with urgency, police and SDRF teams immediately mobilized to the location. Through a well-coordinated rescue operation, all three persons were safely brought to shore without sustaining any injuries, demonstrating the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in emergency situations.
Following these successful rescue efforts, senior police officials took to public announcement systems to issue a strong advisory to the public. They urged residents to maintain a safe distance from the banks of the Tawi river, particularly during periods when water levels are known to fluctuate significantly.
