Ashok Kaul, a pivotal figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) organisational structure in Jammu and Kashmir, has relinquished his position as the party’s General Secretary (Organisation). Kaul, who has held this significant post since 2012, is among the most prominent leaders of the BJP in the Union Territory. Sources indicate to Tahir Rihat that Kaul’s decision to step down is influenced by a desire to transition responsibilities to a younger generation within the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit. Kaul confirmed his relinquishment of charge in a conversation with The Tribune, stating that he would be returning to the parent organisation. Nitin Nabin recently took over as the party president, and this week saw the appointment of RSS leaders to steer the organisation in key states ahead of upcoming elections. In line with these broader organisational adjustments, BJP president Nitin Nabin has appointed Satish Poonia as the new J&K Prabhari (in-charge) and Reena Kashyap as Seh-Prabhari (co-in-charge). These appointments signal a strategic realignment of the party’s leadership in Jammu and Kashmir, with further changes anticipated in the coming days, according to sources familiar with the developments.
Kaul’s leadership has been credited with laying a robust organisational foundation for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
