A birthday celebration on a roadside in Jammu took a tragic turn when a dispute over cake smeared on the face of the birthday boy allegedly led to the fatal stabbing of one of his friends. Police have arrested the accused and his brother in connection with the incident.
The Jammu Police received a report around 9 p.m. on Thursday from Police Post Government Medical College Jammu, stating that an injured individual, identified as Pawan Nair, also known as ‘Sameer’, had been brought to the hospital by his companions. Doctors at the facility pronounced Nair dead upon arrival. A police team from Police Station Janipur was dispatched to the Government Medical College Jammu to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Preliminary inquiries conducted by the authorities revealed that the deceased, Pawan Nair, was present at a roadside location near Lower Roop Nagar where Neeraj, also referred to as ‘Anshu’, was celebrating his birthday. Other friends, including John Sotra, Gaurav Singh, and Sugandh Bhatti, were also in attendance at the gathering. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that Neeraj was accompanied by his brother, Rishu, during the birthday festivities.
According to a police spokesperson, the altercation that led to the fatal stabbing occurred during the cake-cutting ceremony. It is alleged that the deceased, Pawan Nair, smeared cake on Neeraj’s face. This act reportedly triggered a verbal argument between the two individuals. While John Sotra, Gaurav Singh, and Sugandh Bhatti attempted to de-escalate the situation and pacify the feuding friends, Neeraj became enraged. In a fit of anger, Neeraj allegedly produced a sharp-edged weapon, described as a ‘khokhri’, which he was carrying, and attacked Nair on the neck, inflicting a grievous injury. The injured Nair was immediately transported to the Government Medical College Jammu, where medical personnel declared him deceased.
Following the incident, Police Station Janipur registered a murder case. Law enforcement officials moved swiftly to apprehend the alleged assailant, Neeraj, and his brother, Rishu, who was also present at the scene. The police spokesperson confirmed the arrests and stated that efforts are underway to recover the weapon used in the commission of the crime.
