Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Wednesday that while he would engage in discussions with the visiting US Ambassador Sergio Gor regarding the prevailing situation in the region, he would not raise internal matters with the American diplomat. Abdullah emphasized that such issues fall under the purview of the central government for resolution.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah noted the significance of the US Ambassador’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, remarking that it had been a considerable period since such an engagement. “For me personally, it has been a long time since I met any American ambassador. Let him come; we will sit and talk,” Abdullah said, expressing his anticipation for the meeting scheduled for that afternoon. He indicated a preference to listen to the ambassador’s perspectives, acknowledging that Gor was also coming to gather information.
Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that Abdullah reiterated his stance that the challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir do not have a direct bearing on the United States. He underscored that the solutions to the Union Territory’s problems would originate from New Delhi, not Washington. “The resolution to our issues will not come from Washington; the resolution to our problems lies with our central government,” Abdullah asserted.
The Chief Minister further elaborated on his diplomatic approach, stating, “It has never been my habit to lodge complaints about my country to an ambassador of another country.” He deemed it highly inappropriate to discuss domestic grievances with a foreign representative. “That is not my habit,” he firmly stated.
