Organizational responsibilities within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may undergo transformations over time, but the fundamental duties, core values, and unwavering commitment of dedicated party workers are destined to remain constant, stated BL Santhosh, the national general secretary (organisation) of the BJP. He articulated that the party’s overarching mission transcends any individual, underscoring the imperative for every activist to engage in continuous self-improvement while actively contributing to the party’s consolidation and growth.
Santhosh’s remarks were delivered during a felicitation ceremony, a Samman Samaroh, held at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. The event was organized to honor Tarun Chugh for his extensive tenure of nearly six years as the in-charge of the J&K BJP and Ashok Koul for his fourteen-year service as the J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation). Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that Tarun Chugh has since been assigned new responsibilities, including National Office In-charge, a Rajya Sabha membership, and the role of Gujarat BJP in-charge. Concurrently, Ashok Koul has returned to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), his parent organization.
Congratulating Tarun Chugh on his new assignments, Santhosh highlighted the developmental role of organizational postings in shaping an individual’s personality, accumulating valuable experience, and honing leadership acumen. Reflecting on Ashok Koul’s prolonged engagement as an RSS pracharak and a key organizational leader for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, Santhosh explained that such transfers are indicative of broader organizational objectives. He reiterated his core message, stating, “Responsibilities may change, but the basic duties do not,” while extending his best wishes to Koul for his future endeavors, including good health and success.
Santhosh urged party workers to maintain a steadfast focus on strengthening the organizational structure of the party. Simultaneously, he advised them to prioritize their personal development and to consciously avoid developing excessive attachments to individuals or specific positions within the party hierarchy. This approach, he suggested, would foster a more resilient and dedicated cadre, capable of adapting to evolving organizational needs while remaining committed to the party’s foundational principles. The emphasis on self-development and detachment from personal gains is a recurring theme in the BJP’s organizational philosophy, aimed at cultivating leaders who are driven by ideology rather than personal ambition.
Speaking at the event, Tarun Chugh reflected on the sustained struggles undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir for nationalist and social causes. He acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by BJP workers during periods of considerable difficulty in the region. Chugh attributed the current trajectory of development in Jammu and Kashmir to the initiatives of the Narendra Modi-led government. He lauded Ashok Koul as a committed organizational leader whose efforts were instrumental in fortifying the BJP’s base in Jammu and significantly expanding its presence across the Kashmir valley. This expansion, he noted, was a testament to Koul’s strategic vision and tireless dedication to organizational outreach.
While acknowledging the party’s accomplishments in the region, Chugh also pointed out that substantial work remains to be done. He issued a call to action for the party activists, urging them to continue their dedicated service with renewed vigor and commitment. His address underscored the ongoing nature of political and developmental work in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that sustained effort is crucial for achieving long-term objectives. The challenges in the region, he implied, require continuous engagement and adaptation from the party cadre.
Ashok Koul, in his address, recounted his personal journey, which began with his association with the RSS in 1974. He detailed his service in various capacities as a pracharak, highlighting his dedication to organizational work. Koul shared a poignant anecdote about continuing his organizational responsibilities despite suffering a serious accident, underscoring his resilience and commitment. He offered counsel to the party workers, advising them to cultivate a spirit of continuous learning, develop patience, courage, endurance, and perseverance. He stressed the importance of focusing not only on achieving organizational goals but also on their personal growth as committed activists, emphasizing that individual development is intrinsically linked to organizational strength. His advice reflects a holistic approach to activism, where personal character development is as vital as strategic planning and execution.
The emphasis on self-development and enduring values, as articulated by Santhosh and echoed by Chugh and Koul, signals a strategic focus on building a robust and ideologically grounded party structure. The transitions in responsibilities for Chugh and Koul, while significant, are framed within this larger context of organizational continuity and growth. The BJP’s approach, as presented, prioritizes the collective mission over individual roles, ensuring that the party’s core principles remain the guiding force for its workers, irrespective of their positions or assignments. This philosophy aims to create a cadre that is adaptable, resilient, and deeply committed to the party’s long-term vision for India.
