Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh asserted on Tuesday that Udhampur has undergone a significant and transformative development over the past twelve years, marked by substantial advancements across various sectors, including infrastructure and public amenities. This declaration was made during a public gathering held at Tikri in Udhampur, where the minister engaged directly with representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institution, local delegations, and residents. The primary objective of this interaction was to listen to and address the grievances and demands put forth by the community.
The event saw the presence of key district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa, alongside senior district officers and representatives from multiple government departments. During the darbar, several immediate issues were resolved on the spot, while directives were issued for the swift and comprehensive redressal of other concerns raised by the public. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the minister’s visit underscored a commitment to localized governance and responsive administration.
Addressing specific concerns related to sanitation and sewage management, Dr. Singh announced a dedicated allocation of Rs. 9 crore for the maintenance of sewage systems within Udhampur. Furthermore, an additional Rs. 4 crore has been earmarked for rejuvenation works aimed at improving the existing infrastructure. The minister indicated that further financial assistance would be provided following an assessment of the extent of damage and the specific ground requirements, with the overarching goal of establishing a long-term and sustainable solution to the city’s persistent sewage problems. This financial commitment highlights the administration’s focus on essential public services.
In parallel, Dr. Singh drew attention to the ongoing Angan Milan Seva programme, an initiative designed to foster enhanced community participation at Anganwadi centres. This program aims to connect families with vital services pertaining to maternal and child health, nutrition, and various welfare schemes. The Angan Milan Seva, scheduled to run from September 25 to October 7, also serves as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of Anganwadi and ASHA workers. Moreover, it seeks to encourage greater involvement from parents and the wider community in activities that directly impact the well-being of children and families, thereby strengthening the social fabric.
Senior officials representing departments such as the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) provided assurances that all issues brought forward by the public during the darbar would be thoroughly examined. They committed to taking necessary actions to ensure their early resolution, demonstrating a coordinated effort to tackle the challenges identified. The minister’s engagement emphasized a multi-departmental approach to problem-solving.
Among the significant grievances highlighted during the Public Darbar were critical issues concerning mobile connectivity, the availability of water supply, and the installation of water pumps in various localities. In response, Dr. Singh issued direct instructions to the relevant departments to meticulously examine these matters. He urged them to implement appropriate measures promptly to ensure that these essential services are improved and made accessible to all residents, thereby addressing the immediate needs and improving the quality of life in the region.
