A man who had been evading law enforcement for approximately two years in connection with a serious Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case has been arrested in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The apprehension brings to a close a prolonged search operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The accused, identified as a resident of Bhata Chaka village, was reportedly involved in the abduction and alleged rape of a minor girl. He was formally booked under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act at the Doda police station in 2024. Following the registration of the case, the individual had been absconding, making him a wanted fugitive. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that a general warrant of arrest had been issued against the accused by the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge in Bhaderwah on August 28 of the previous year, underscoring the gravity of the charges and the judicial pursuit of the suspect.
The successful capture of the absconder was the result of sustained efforts and the diligent pursuit of credible information by a police party from Doda. The spokesperson for the police department confirmed that the arrest was made following meticulous investigation and intelligence gathering. The apprehended individual was subsequently presented before the court as per legal procedures. The Court of the Principal Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah, has directed that the accused be lodged in the Bhaderwah district jail, where he will remain in judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
