A gas explosion in a coal mine in China’s Shanxi Province has resulted in the deaths of 90 miners, with rescue efforts ongoing to locate those still missing. The incident occurred on Friday evening at the Liushenyu coal mine located in Qinyuan County, Changzhi, where a total of 247 workers were present underground at the time of the accident.
The state-run media in Beijing reported that rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach those who remain unaccounted for. According to reports, 123 individuals who were rescued are currently receiving medical treatment in hospitals, with two in critical condition and two others in serious condition. Nine miners remain missing, prompting an all-out effort to locate them.

Accountability will be pursued strictly in accordance with the law, according to his instructions.
President Xi stressed that authorities nationwide must learn from this accident, maintaining constant vigilance regarding workplace safety. He urged intensified efforts to identify and eliminate potential risks to prevent future major accidents. The President’s statement underscores the government’s commitment to preventing similar disasters. In light of China entering its flood season, Xi Jinping further called for strengthened emergency preparedness and robust flood control measures to protect lives and property, highlighting the need for comprehensive disaster management strategies.
Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing is leading a team at the site to oversee the rescue operations. According to state-run media, the government is providing resources and support to the rescue teams, as well as medical assistance to those injured.
