Security forces have significantly bolstered their presence across Kashmir in anticipation of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, implementing a comprehensive, multi-layered security strategy to ensure a peaceful and orderly event. Officials confirmed that area domination exercises, along with intensified checking and frisking operations, are underway throughout the valley. This proactive approach aims to preempt any attempts by militant groups to disrupt the national festivities.
Police and paramilitary personnel have been strategically deployed in large numbers at various key locations within Srinagar and across other districts of the valley. This visible and robust security presence is intended to deter any potential threats. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that plainclothes policemen are also integrated into the security apparatus, positioned discreetly around the venues designated for Independence Day functions to monitor for suspicious activities.
Routine and random searches of vehicles are being conducted at multiple checkpoints, and citizens are being subjected to frisking as part of the enhanced security protocols. The security apparatus has also ramped up patrolling and area domination exercises, with a particular focus on vulnerable areas and the immediate vicinity of celebration venues. These measures are part of a coordinated effort to maintain a secure environment.
The main Independence Day ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expected to preside over the event. To further fortify security around the stadium, sharpshooters have been positioned on all high-rise buildings overlooking the venue. Personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are also actively involved in the security arrangements, contributing to the overall security grid.
The security framework incorporates both human intelligence and technical surveillance, including the deployment of drones for aerial monitoring, to ensure the day passes without incident. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, stated that the security arrangements are designed to be multi-layered and robust, encompassing the entirety of Kashmir to guarantee the smooth conduct of the Independence Day celebrations. Birdi emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir Police consistently maintain strong security measures, not only in Srinagar but also in various districts throughout the valley, extending these arrangements beyond the immediate celebration sites to surrounding areas.
Anshul Garg, the Kashmir Divisional Commissioner, confirmed that all preparations for the event are complete. He noted that Bakshi Stadium, a traditional venue for such celebrations, is ready, and ongoing processes include rehearsals and final security checks. The divisional administration has been engaged in meticulous planning for the past month to ensure the arrangements are befitting the national occasion and meet public expectations. Garg also mentioned that approximately 30 contingents will participate in the parade at Bakshi Stadium, with preparations for the flag unfurling ceremony by the Chief Minister well underway.
The Divisional Commissioner extended an invitation to the public, particularly the youth and students, to attend the Independence Day event at Bakshi Stadium. He also encouraged citizens in other districts to participate in their respective district-level celebrations, highlighting the significance of the 80th anniversary of this national event as a landmark moment for all residents. The comprehensive security measures are expected to facilitate public participation while maintaining a secure environment.
