PM Modi to Unveil Ladakh’s Rs 3,350 Crore Development Projects Thursday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate five significant development projects valued at approximately Rs 3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday. These initiatives are poised to bolster connectivity, enhance energy infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage, and improve water security across the Union Territory.

Among the key projects to be commissioned is the new passenger terminal building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. This modern facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 640 crore, is expected to significantly upgrade air travel infrastructure in the high-altitude region. Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that the new terminal is designed to handle increased passenger traffic and improve operational efficiency at one of the world’s highest airports.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation the 298-kilometer-long Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, a strategic infrastructure project undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). This road establishes a crucial alternative connectivity corridor to Ladakh, linking Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh via the remote Zanskar Valley. The new route is designed to supplement the existing Srinagar–Leh and Manali–Leh highways, thereby enhancing logistical support and operational mobility for the Armed Forces in the region. The project involved traversing challenging Himalayan terrain, including the high-altitude Shinkun La Pass, marking a considerable engineering feat. Beyond its strategic importance, the road is anticipated to improve access to essential services such as healthcare and education for the residents of the Zanskar region, as stated in an official release.

In a move to strengthen energy security and capitalize on Ladakh’s renewable energy potential, two power projects will be inaugurated: the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV Double-Circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi Transmission Line. These projects are intended to reinforce the power evacuation infrastructure and enhance the reliability of the electricity network in Ladakh. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, these initiatives represent a significant step towards harnessing the region’s hydropower resources and fortifying its energy infrastructure, contributing to its overall energy independence.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh. This park is dedicated to preserving the rich prehistoric rock art sites found in Ladakh, which feature carvings of wildlife, human figures, and symbolic representations. These ancient artworks offer invaluable insights into thousands of years of human history and cultural evolution in the region. The establishment of this park underscores efforts to protect and promote Ladakh’s unique archaeological and cultural heritage.

The fifth project to be inaugurated is the development of 40 water bodies across 40 villages under Project Him Sarovar. This initiative is aimed at addressing Ladakh’s specific geographical and climatic challenges by focusing on water conservation. The project aligns with the broader objectives of Mission Amrit Sarovar, seeking to enhance water security and promote sustainable water management practices in the arid and high-altitude environment of Ladakh. The development of these water bodies is expected to benefit local communities by improving access to water resources for various needs, including agriculture and domestic use.

The collective inauguration of these five projects signifies a substantial investment in the development of Ladakh, addressing critical needs in connectivity, energy, cultural preservation, and water management. The projects are expected to have a transformative impact on the region’s economy, security, and the quality of life for its residents.
