Norway Visit Delayed After Pahalgam Attack, PM Modi Reveals, Lauding Oslo’s Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi disclosed that a planned trip to Norway was postponed following the terror attack in Pahalgam, while also expressing his gratitude to the Norwegian government for their support in the global fight against terrorism. Modi thanked Oslo for demonstrating what he described as “true friendship.”

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Store shortly after arriving in Oslo, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his appreciation for the warm welcome. He mentioned that he was looking forward to congratulating the people of Norway on their Constitution Day. According to the Prime Minister, he was thankful for the grand welcome and looked forward to Norway’s Constitution Day.

Information reaching TahirRihat.com suggests that the Prime Minister reflected on the changes to his travel schedule that delayed the visit and explained the reasons behind the shift. He stated that he could not come to Norway earlier because of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the importance of Oslo’s diplomatic support during the security crisis, highlighting that Norway stood with India against terrorism and demonstrated genuine friendship. This visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Norway in 43 years, signifying a crucial moment in bilateral relations. He arrived for a two-day official visit after engagements in Sweden, marking the fourth leg of his tour aimed at revitalizing India-Norway strategic and economic relations.

The Prime Minister’s schedule in Oslo included participation in the third India-Nordic Summit and bilateral discussions. During his stay, Modi was also scheduled to meet with King Harald V and Queen Sonja. Following his time in Norway, Prime Minister Modi was slated to visit Italy, the final stop of his five-nation tour, which previously included the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The backdrop to the Prime Minister’s comments was the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. On April 22, 2025, terrorists struck the tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, entering a village and killing 26 civilians. The town, known for its scenic beauty, was the site of a brutal attack where, (according to Daily Excelsior) Pakistan-backed terrorists reportedly questioned the victims about their religion before killing them.

In response to the attack, the Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Official details indicated that the Indian armed forces destroyed nine major terror launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, (Daily Excelsior reported) eliminating over 100 terrorists during the operation.

Following Operation Sindoor, drone attacks and shelling by Pakistan led to a four-day conflict between the two countries. During this period, India conducted retaliatory strikes, destroying radar installations in Lahore and near Gujranwala. Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) then contacted the Indian DGMO, and a ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10. ‘Operation Mahadev’ was cited as another joint success by the Army and security forces last year, leading to the elimination of three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.

In addition to military actions, India terminated the Indus Waters Treaty and all bilateral trade with Pakistan. The Daily Excelsior highlighted the nation’s shock and subsequent decisive actions taken by the Indian armed forces in response to the terror attack. The swift and comprehensive response demonstrated India’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring national security.
