A young man lost his life after being swept away by strong currents while bathing in a natural waterfall located in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on Saturday, and despite immediate rescue attempts, the individual remained missing until his body was recovered on Sunday afternoon. Two other individuals who were with him at the time were rescued from the turbulent waters, officials confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Maroof, a resident of Thanamang Darhal. He had been employed in Mumbai and had recently returned to his hometown on leave. According to officials, Maroof, along with two friends, Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Yasir, also residents of Thanamang, ventured to the natural waterfall on Saturday for a bath. They managed to pull both Ismail and Yasir from the water and transported them to a local hospital for urgent medical attention.
Maroof, however, remained missing, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation that stretched into its second consecutive day on Sunday. Joint teams comprising personnel from the police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed to the area. Local residents also joined the effort, combing the stream near Khorinar village in the Darhal area.
