J&K CM Inaugurates Rs 25 Crore Infrastructure Boost for Beerwah

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure development projects valued at approximately Rs 25 crore in Beerwah, Budgam. These initiatives are designed to significantly enhance local connectivity, improve the reliability of electricity supply, upgrade civic amenities, and bolster the tourism potential of the region. The comprehensive development package underscores a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and fostering economic growth.

Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that among the key inaugurations was a two-span truss girder bridge constructed over Nallah Sukhnag. Each span of the bridge measures 35 metres, and the project was completed at a cost of Rs 8 crore. This bridge has been a long-standing demand from the local populace, and its completion is expected to dramatically improve transportation links and ease the daily movement of people in the area. The Chief Minister highlighted the bridge’s importance in strengthening the region’s infrastructure and facilitating smoother transit for both residents and goods.

Further development plans for the Beerwah area include the beautification of Nallah Sukhnag, which will involve the creation of walkways and the installation of modern lighting systems. Concurrently, a project for the beautification of Beerwah town itself has been initiated. These beautification efforts are estimated to cost around Rs 6.33 crore and are aimed at creating more attractive public spaces and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the town, thereby boosting its appeal for tourism. The riverfront beautification, in particular, will feature a walking track and viewing decks, providing residents and visitors with enhanced recreational opportunities and making the area a more desirable destination.

In a significant move to bolster the power infrastructure, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a dedicated transformer repairing workshop in Beerwah. This facility, approved at a cost of Rs 4.85 crore under the UT Capex Budget 2026–27, is envisioned as a central hub for the repair and refurbishment of damaged distribution transformers. The establishment of this workshop is expected to drastically reduce the time and cost associated with transformer repairs and replacements, leading to a more stable and reliable electricity supply across the region. Sources indicate to Tahir Rihat that the workshop is projected to reclaim approximately 1,000 damaged distribution transformers annually once operational, which will directly contribute to minimizing power outages and providing much-needed relief to consumers, especially during the challenging winter months.

Another crucial component of the power infrastructure upgrade is the construction of a 10 MVA receiving station at Sail, Beerwah. This project, approved at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, is designed to alleviate the strain on neighbouring receiving stations. It is expected to effectively address issues of winter overloading, improve voltage levels in Sail and the surrounding villages, and significantly reduce unscheduled power cuts and technical power losses. The Chief Minister expressed optimism about the receiving station becoming operational within the next four to five months, further emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring a consistent and dependable power supply.

Addressing the power supply challenges, the Chief Minister underscored the strategic importance of establishing a local transformer repair facility to mitigate the difficulties faced by residents, particularly during periods of high demand in winter. He conveyed his hope that the workshop would be completed as soon as possible, reflecting a proactive approach to addressing infrastructure deficits. The focus on power sector improvements highlights a broader strategy to enhance essential services and support the region’s development.

In addition to infrastructure and power projects, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new sub-divisional office building at Sonpah, Beerwah. Approved at a cost of Rs 82.29 lakh under the UT Capex Budget 2026–27, this building will provide dedicated administrative space, aiming to streamline office functions and improve the accessibility of public services for the residents of the sub-division. Work on this project has recently commenced, signaling progress in enhancing administrative efficiency and public service delivery in the area.
