Jammu and Kashmir is on the cusp of hosting its inaugural International Film Festival (IFFJ&K), a significant cultural event scheduled to run from September 7 to September 10. Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg convened a high-level meeting to meticulously review the preparations, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring the festival’s success. During the review, Garg issued directives to all involved departments, emphasizing the need for comprehensive and efficient execution of their assigned responsibilities. He stressed that meticulous planning and prompt problem-solving would be paramount to the smooth functioning of the event.
Information reaching Tahir Rihat suggests that designated nodal officers have been instructed to be present at their respective venues throughout the festival. This on-site presence is intended to foster close coordination among all stakeholders, facilitating the immediate resolution of any emerging issues and streamlining logistical arrangements. The Divisional Commissioner specifically highlighted the importance of flawless venue management, precise event sequencing, and robust crowd-control strategies for the primary locations: the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and INOX. These measures are designed to ensure a seamless experience for attendees and participants alike.
Further details reviewed during the meeting included arrangements for night screenings, a unique floating cinema experience, and a gala dinner, along with other proposed activities. Necessary directives were issued to ensure these elements are executed without a hitch. The Tourism Department has been tasked with finalizing promotional materials, including brochures and audio-visual content, that will showcase the diverse tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir to festival guests. Concurrently, the Handicrafts & Handloom Department is preparing informational brochures for visitors, detailing the region’s crafts, artisans, and available stalls, aiming to promote local heritage and commerce.
In an effort to engage the youth and foster a connection with the film industry, the Higher Education Department will establish dedicated registration desks for students attending the festival. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir has been directed to brief hired drivers on the festival’s schedule, sightseeing packages for guests, and tour packages, ensuring their timely participation in all scheduled programs. The festival’s international character is further underscored by the announcement that films from 40 different countries will be screened, marking a significant milestone for the region’s cultural landscape.
Divisional Commissioner Garg urged all departments to provide unwavering support to the event management team. He placed a strong emphasis on the necessity of effective micro-traffic management and stringent security arrangements, while simultaneously striving to minimize any inconvenience to guests, participants, filmmakers, and the general public. To enhance the arrival and departure experience, concerned agencies have been directed to ensure comprehensive arrangements at the airport. Attractive selfie points are also planned for the SKICC back lawns and INOX premises, aiming to create memorable moments for attendees and promote the festival’s visual appeal.
For optimal inter-departmental synergy, the Director Information has been assigned the role of ensuring close coordination among all relevant departments. The Joint Director Information, Kashmir, will serve as the single-point nodal officer stationed at SKICC, acting as the central hub for coordination and communication. A crucial step in the preparation process will be a comprehensive dry run, intended to identify and rectify any potential gaps in the arrangements before the festival commences. The Divisional Commissioner stressed the importance of seamless communication channels among all stakeholders to guarantee the event’s smooth execution.
The high-level meeting was attended by key officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, the Director Information, heads of various departments, and designated nodal officers, all of whom are actively involved in the planning and execution of this landmark event. The successful organization of the IFFJ&K is expected to not only boost the region’s cultural profile but also highlight its growing potential as a destination for international events and tourism, fostering economic and social development.
